60s Makeup Look

There is a striking difference between the makeup of 1960’s and the bright Day-Glo shades of the 80’s and the natural look of the 90’s. The authentic looks of 1960’s are more dramatic with smoky eyes and nude lips. This look is quite different from the smoky eye and nude lip of today. The first step is to get all your supplies ready. You will need a good foundation with medium to heavy coverage, concealer, powder, brow pencil, frosty peach blush, black eyeshadow, a lash curler, false lashes, mascara and nude lip pencil and beige lipstick.

First, apply your foundation. You can apply foundation with your fingers or a damp makeup sponge. Or, do what the pros do and use a foundation brush. Use concealer to cover up any imperfections of the skin such as dark undereye circles and blemishes. For this look, apply foundation even to your lips so that there is a nude base for your liner and lipstick. Set your base with a liberal dusting of powder. The look should be matte, not dewy. Next, apply the frosty peach blush to the hollows of the cheeks up to the hairline. Don't overblend.

Now it's time to do your eyes. Start at the top by filling in your brows with a brow pencil that matches your brow color. Accentuate your natural arch with the pencil. If your brows are too thick, pluck them first. Unruly brows can be held in place with a dab of brow gel, clear mascara or even a little hair gel. Next, use an eyeshadow applicator or brush to apply the black shadow to the lids and crease. Blend gently. Wet the applicator and dip it into the black shadow again. With the wet shadow, apply a dramatic line to the upper and lower lash lines. You may also want to use liquid black eyeliner if you don't like using wet shadow. Wing the liner out at the outer corners for a cat-eye look. After the liner is dry, apply the false eyelashes. When they are securely adhered, curl your lashes to blend them with the falsies and apply two coats of black mascara.

To finish off your 60's makeup look, line your lips with the nude lip pencil and fill in with beige lipstick. That's all there is to it! You may also want to make your look more authentic by teasing your hair into a big bouffant. Or, go for the hippie style and flat iron your tresses straight, then part in the center. You might even want to add a few thin braids to give the look even more 60's style.
